Meeting the Prime Minister at No 10 Downing Street

Cllr David Mackintosh today met the Prime Minister, David Cameron, at No 10 Downing Street.

The Leader of Northampton Borough Council and the Prime Minister discussed issue affecting Northampton including the Enterprise Zone.

Cllr Mackintosh spent the day in London in a series of meetings and also met Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, and Housing Minister, Grant Shapps, who had earlier in the day announced the Government’s new Housing Strategy.

Cllr Mackintosh along with Cllr Mary Markham, Cabinet member for Housing at Northampton Borough Council, had discussed the new Housing Stratgy with officials from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Cllr Mackintosh also, along with Cllr Tim Hadland, Cabinet member for Regeneration, Enterprise and Planning at Northampton Borough Council, met with representatives from Legal & General to discuss development of the Grosvenor Centre.

Night Run Northampton

Cllr David Mackintosh joined The Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Jamie Lane, to take part in the Night Run Northampton to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

The Night Run is part of the Cultural Olympiad programme of events and took place in the town centre.

David elected Conservative leader

Cllr David Mackintosh was today elected as Leader of the Conservative Group on Northampton Borough Council following the resignation of the previous leader.

Cllr Mackintosh is expected to be elected as the youngest ever Leader of Northampton Borough Council at a Special Meeting of the Council on 7th November.

Rebalancing the economy

Cllr David Mackintosh today took part in a panel discussion on ‘Rebalancing the Economy’ at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester looking at ways in which local government can work with government to boost the economy. Cllr Mackintosh talked about the Northampton Waterside Enterprise Zone as an example of this work in Northamptonshire.

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles MP, and the Minister of State for Housing, Grant Shapps MP, also took part.

David attends 9/11 anniversary charity day for KidsAid

To mark the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Cllr David Mackintosh today attended a charity fundraising day organised by BGC Partners in Canary Wharf which was established to remember staff from Cantor Fitzgerald who died during the terrorist attacks in New York in September 2001.

Children’s charities including KidsAid benefited from the fundraising day which was attended by Prince Harry, Sarah, Duchess of York, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, singer Duffy, boyband One Direction and a host of celebrities.

David attends service to mark 9/11 anniversary

Cllr David Mackintosh today attended the national service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to mark the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States in September 2001.

The Service was also attended by the United States Ambassador, Mr Louis B. Susman, and Home Secretary, The Rt Hon Theresa May MP.

David opens Rectory Farm Ramble

Cllr David Mackintosh today officially opened the Rectory Farm Ramble in Rectory Farm Pocket Park with The Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Jamie Lane.

The scheme was awarded £34,383 from the Community Spaces programme which is part of The Big Lottery Fund’s Changing Spaces intiative.

David praises role of CCTV in Northampton

Cllr David Mackintosh today praised the role of CCTV cameras operated by Northampton Borough Council which helped deal with 16,973 incidents in the last year and led to 2,302 arrests.

Cllr David Mackintosh said, “The partnership work between Northampton Borough Council and Northamptonshire Police plays an important part in keeping Northampton safe as the figures released show. CCTV helps monitor and prevent crime in the town and bring criminals to justice.”
