Northampton Borough Council Leader Cllr David Mackintosh has visited the fire-damaged buildings in Bridge Street, Northampton, to see for himself the damage following the fire earlier this week.
Cllr Mackintosh met with the owner of The Balloon Bar, John Shelton, and discussed how the Borough Council could help and support him in getting his business up and running.
He saw the progress being made to support the building and make it safe from falling into the street.
He also expressed his gratitude to the fire commander on the scene for the hard work and bravery of the fire fighters involved in dealing with the blaze.
Cllr Mackintosh said, “I really hadn’t realised the scale of the damage to the building from the outside and just how serious this fire had been. Going inside, I can now see what dangers the firefighters faced and we should all be very grateful for how hard they worked to contain the fire and protect other buildings.
“I was really keen to meet John Shelton and tell him of all the work that is going on to help trade in the area to return to normal and to offer my support to him as he tries to get up and running again. I’m looking forward to meeting representatives from other town centre businesses next week to discuss the night time economy more broadly.”
