Concerns raised at Planning Appeal

Northampton South MP, David Mackintosh, joined his colleague, Andrea Leadsom, MP for South Northamptonshire, to appear in front of a Planning Appeal inquiry to challenge the developers Bovis Homes over their proposals for the Northampton South Sustainable Urban Extension at Collingtree.

David Mackintosh was Leader of Northampton Borough Council whilst this was considered by the council and raised the issues of flooding, traffic, air pollution and infrastructure to the Planning Inspectorate. These are issues that have been raised by residents over many years.

Despite David and Andrea putting across a number of direct points to the Planning Inspectorate, and referring to evidence-based analyses of local, regional and national planning policy guidance, the Inspectorate’s QC declined to ask them any questions.

David Mackintosh said: “I was pleased to join my colleague, Andrea, because I know from my time as Leader of Northampton Borough Council, that this planning application would have a big detrimental impact on our local infrastructure and this needs to be rejected so this can be better considered.”

We await the outcome of the Planning Appeal inquiry, and David and Andrea will continue to do all that they can to represent the very clear views of local residents on this matter.
