Northampton South MP, David Mackintosh, has visited the Friends of Northampton General Hospital to thank volunteers for the work they do.
The Friends of Northampton General Hospital have worked with the hospital since 1989 and provide guides who help patients and visitors find their way around the hospital.
Their knowledge and advice can often make the difference between a patient getting to an appointment on time or being late, and this service is very much appreciated by patients, visitors and staff.
The Friends of NGH also run a passenger buggy service for outpatients and visitors to the hospital with mobility difficulties.
Each year around 7,000 people are helped in this way.
In addition, the Friends of NGH run a shop which sells bric-a-brac and other generously donated items to help raise funds that support the Friends of NGH as well as providing minor items of equipment for the hospital. The Friends also arrange quizzes and other fundraising events.
David said: “I was very pleased to meet with the volunteers to thank them for all the work the Friends do at Northampton General Hospital and helping people who arrive at the hospital often upset, lost or in need of some help or support.
“I saw the vital work they do that helps to keep the hospital functioning.”
