The home of Northampton Town Football Club will undergo a major overhaul as part of the plans, which will see a new conference centre built along with a 100 bed hotel.

Northampton Borough Council’s planning committee have also given the go ahead to 255 homes and a small number of retail units on land surrounding Sixfields.

Cllr Mackintosh, leader of Northampton Borough Council said: “I am pleased to see the plans have been approved, as the redevelopment of Sixfields stadium is essential to the club. Modernising the ground to bring in more corporate and commercial facilities will help ensure the club can maximise revenue and operate as a business all year round. This additional funding can only help provide a sound financial base for the club to work from.”
