David Mackintosh, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Northampton South, was joined by members of Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet to show their support for local campanies as part of Small Business Saturday.
The event, organised by the Federation for Small Businesses (FSB), is in its second year and aims to demonstrate how important small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are for the UK economy.
Northampton has a higher than average number of SMEs, thanks to the particularly entrepreneurial mindset of those who live here. This was recognised in a report from Experian earlier this year.
For the latest event on Saturday, 6 December, the Borough Council’s Cabinet members headed out to meet business owners across the town.
Councillor Mackintosh said: “We work hard to make sure businesses in Northampton have the best chance of success and it was great to hear some of their stories.
“There are some outstanding small businesses across the borough, spanning a diverse range of sectors, which is one of the reasons we managed to weather the recent recession so well.
“Businesses we visited ranged from leisure, such as cafes and restaurants, to retail, physiotherapy clinics and small industry.
“We want to continue making sure small firms take advantage of the wealth of support on offer, including grants, loans, or even valuable business advice.”
FSB staff were at the Guildhall on the day, offering drop-in sessions for any businesses wishing to find out more about the organisation’s services.
