Housing development will make use of former school site
The Conservative MP for Northampton South, David Mackintosh, has visited a new housing development that sits on a former school site to provide 82 new family homes when complete.
Mr Mackintosh met with representatives from NHBC and the developers, Bellway, at their Abington Chase site in Northampton. The development offers a variety of 3, 4 and 5-bedroom family homes all within close proximity of a newly built primary school and a range of upper schools.
The visit organised by NHBC, the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, highlights the risk management processes and showed Mr Mackintosh a prime example of new homes that meet current building regulations. NHBC’s constituency based figures show that the number of new homes started in Northampton South has increased in the last two years. In 2013, 253 new homes were started, increasing by 21% to 306 homes started in 2014. In the first quarter of 2015, the number of new homes started in Northampton South increased by 8% on the same period last year, from 74 in Q1 2014 to 80 in Q1 2015.
Mr Mackintosh said: “Northampton is a growing town and demand for housing has been steadily increasing here as it has in other parts of the country. To provide for the future prosperity of the town it is vital that we meet that demand with good quality housing.
“In recent years we have been working hard to make Northampton a great place to work, live and do business, and developments such as this are a key part of that plan.”
