Statement following Westminster terror attack

Following the terrorist attack on Westminster on 22nd March 2017, David Mackintosh MP has issued the following statement:

Westminster

“The terrorist attack in Westminster has shocked us all and were a direct attempt to undermine democracy which is the foundations of our values in British life. The Palace of Westminster is a symbol of democracy around the world and the mother of all parliaments.

“As the events unfolded, I was in the chamber of the House of Commons after just voting. Colleagues came running in saying they had heard shooting and it became clear that something very serious had happened. The Deputy Speaker suspended the session and the chamber was placed in lock-down for around four hours with MPs unsure what was happening outside and concerned for their staff.

“I have the utmost praise for the brave Police and security services for the work they do to keep us safe and, in particular, to defend us against this terrorist attack.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the Police Officer and those who died or were injured, as well as their friends and families.

“But terrorism must never prevail and the next day I was back in Parliament doing my job that I was elected to do. Democracy must always win.”
